Bangkok

We are finally here. After many tearful goodbyes in Japan and my whole little entourage straining at the security gate to wave farewell till the last possible moment, making me nearly miss my plane, I headed off to Thailand. Score I got my cankle amenity on this long flight too!! We stopped over in Kuala Lampur to change planes and we were off again. In Bangkok we caught a bus and headed to the BTS station (sky train) then into a taxi. After a quick shower and a change we were off to the English meeting for the special talk. And then off to the other airport to pick up Christina. After a wander up the street to the mall for a bite to eat we headed off to bed- all tuckered out. Monday morning bright and early we headed of to the branch...

On the way we took a bus and then hopped in this taxi, where apparently people need to be told not to engage in the following activities (I will let your imagination run with this one)...

We met up with Gary and Brenda

We looked at a couple places but nothing was available month to month, only on a six month basis.

So we wandered about a bit and Gary showed us the mall with a waterfall and amazon pond in the middle...

We also witnessed some random "drop it like its hot" dancing girls in sailor style daisy dukes at the mall. Which was rather bizarre. Especially since everyone has told us how modest everyone is here. As we were navigating through the streets trying to locate an apartment someone told us about this guy kept brushing his hands across my backside. In Thailand showing any form of anger is a dishonor to you, so I tried shifting and glancing back but he just kept doing it. Finally I put my hands across my backside and walked quickly. A sister said it's quite normal here they are intrigued by backsides... Gary almost cried he laughed so hard. Then we headed off to meet a sister on the other side of the city. I had met her by chance at the English meeting on Sunday and she told me about where she was living. On our way I miscalculated the fare and we ended up not having the right ticket to exit the train. We had visions of Brokedown Palace and Christina asked which one of us was going to get a roach in her ear. But a really nice ticket officer let us pay the difference. As we transferred trains some music started and everyone froze. So we stopped and it turned out to be the national anthem... probably. I of course felt the need to burst into laughter since everyone was frozen, suspended in time, on stairs, on the concourse, in the turnstiles. Anyways we managed not to laugh and after about two minutes it ended and everyone resume their activities. So after various forms of transportation and two hours we met up with Dayanna from Australia and Kendal from the States.

We visited the apartments and agreed to rent one for one month. So we are now located on the Talat Phlu BTS stop, in Phetkasem Soi Sipsok, Tapra. Our Kingdom Hall is a two minute walk away, we will be in a Thai congregation of about 70 publishers, that also has a Hindi group. Here is our little home...

The view

We have the zone visit this week and then this weekend is Thai New Year so all the meetings are cancelled and we will be holed up in our little room. More adventures to follow...
